Tech-based pedagogy, Tech-driven Gabrielian.
A student quests to fuse knowledge with entertainment has led to the genesis of a progressive learning venture. Have you ever wondered if an education student from Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel, Inc. could create an immersive e-game?
Meet Franklin G. German, the mastermind behind 'Frank the Explorer,' his final output in the subject Technology for Teaching and Learning and developing educational game inspired by the beloved Pokรฉmon series and brought to life through the innovative platform, Scratch.
Frank is currently a third-year student at Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel, Inc. He is pursuing Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino.
Inspired from Pokรฉmon games, Frank's prototype offers players a 2D adventure where they play on a mission filled with challenges and encounters. The game incorporates interactive elements where players must answer questions to progress. Frank develops a classic adventure game with a modern educational twist.
"The advantage of this game is that we can use it as a key interactive tool where children enjoy and learn. This can be played individually at home or school. It has a creative mode where kids don't just answer questions; they can also use their skills to make their own maps. This is a 2D game, so children will be more engaged because they are simple and adventurous. Today's youth are fond of adventures, so i created a game where they can play and learn simultaneously," Frank noted.
The development journey was no easy feat for Frank. Starting with Scratch, he navigated the complexities of game design and coding, initially struggling to grasp the platform's nuances. However, with perseverance and commitment to create an educational online instructional material, Frank honed his skills and brought his vision to life.
In the 21st century, Frank believes his game holds great potential to effectively engage students in learning. By leveraging the popularity of gaming, the game seamlessly integrates education into an entertainment format, making learning more accessible and enjoyable.
"This is especially relevant today as we live in a rapidly evolving society where we can use technology in learning to make it more effective," Frank remarked.
Technical hurdles, such as image size discrepancies, tested Frank's problem-solving skills but ultimately led to a stronger understanding of game development. He embodied the perseverance of a Gabrielian.
Frank the Explorer is a game with plans for further development and potential expansion into a customizable application. Frank proves that Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel, Inc., is a home for 21st-century educators committed to making an evolving education more interesting and accessible not only for Gabrielians but also for the learning community.
